Das erwartet Sie
On 142 kilometers between Ascherbrück (Ruhla) and Brennersgrün (Lehesten) the Rennsteig ranges between 500 and 980 meters above sea level. Thus, it is the longest long-distance ski hiking trail in Central Europe. Since 2013, the Rennsteig ski hiking trail has been continuously signposted and certified by the German Ski Association.
Due to its history, the Rennsteig is sometimes too narrow for the preparation of the ski track, so the ski trail occasionally deviates from the original. For smaller rounds, there are many different trails and ski hiking routes along the Rennsteig.
For ambitious skiers, the demanding elevation profile is a challenge. On 142 kilometers between Ascherbrück near Ruhla and Brennersgrün/Lehesten, the Rennsteig ranges between 500 and 980 meters above sea level.
Six Rennsteig houses along the long-distance ski hiking trail offer you the opportunity to rest, use barrier-free sanitary facilities such as toilets and showers, store skis and wax them. Experience unforgettable moments and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the Rennsteig over the ridges of the Thuringian Forest to the Rhön and the Hainich from one of the newly built observation towers. Shelters also invite you to linger if the weather does not cooperate.
